seems like an excellent deal for learning about the korean war
I dont know why this dvd set hasnt gotten 100 4-5 star reviews yet for its content. (as it is very cheaply priced..i wasnt expecting anything great) It seems to very thoroughly cover the Korean War and has much film from the Korean war inside it.

I've Watched this Series at Least a Dozen Times
It makes the conflict come alive in real time. It has changed, sharpened, intensified, my understanding of the word Korea. This is a series parents can watch with their kids knowing they will see the unvarnished truth about the Korean War and war in general.
What struck me most is the resilience, courage, ingenuity and spirit of the American fighting man and woman. being a veteran, when I volunteer at the V.A. hospital, I can better connect with the vets who were there.

Refresher Course.
The Korean War, which some at the time insisted on calling a "police action" despite the 50,000 or so American deaths, was never really "forgotten." It just naturally went down the memory hole, largely for two reasons: (1) The peace talks in Panmunjom dragged on for two years and the public lost interest; and (2) the North Koreans, Chinese, and Russians lost in their attempt to expand their ideology but we didn't win either. The war ended in a cease fire, not a truce, just about where it began. We still have troops stationed at the 38th parallel and so do the North Koreans, and every once in a while there is a minor incident of violence.

This set of four disks takes us from "Prologue -- The Road to War" to interviews with two Medal of Honor recipients. Most of the first three disks deal with the military situation, the remainder with interviews. There are multiple talking heads, ranging from historians to PFCs. All the heads are American.

the negative reviews are missing the point as usual because this is one of Fulci's Golden Greats. of course there's some plot holes and cheesy moments but they are few and far between, and the majority of movie is all guts and gory. all good Fulci movies establish hellish creeping dread that is punctuated by beautiful women, a few laugh out loud moments (some intentional, some not) and many gorious glorious death setpieces natch

although it's not a patch on The Beyond, I love this movie from start to finish, conceding that yes the last 15 minutes of this film is somewhat sketchily presented. howver the end scenes are in keeping with the logic of the narrative to that point, and really, if you've paid attention to a relatively (for Fulci) unconvoluted plot then the last 15 seconds shouldn't leave you "scratching your head". Extreme, Effective Fulci Gorefest
CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD is a beautiful Fulci film, expertly directed and gorgeously photographed. The performances are top notch considering the genre and foreign origins of the film.

Also known as GATES OF HELL, CotLD opens revolves around the suicide of a priest which opens the gates of Hell. A woman with a link to the beyond and a reporter (Christopher George from PIECES!) are drawn into the bizarre happenings surrounding this turn of events and the blood begins to flow. And does it ever flow: from the eyes of those who are unfortunate enough to stare down the undead, from the mouths of those vomiting their entrails, from the brains of those who don't mind their head when the zombies are around, and from the cheeks of poor old Bob who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, specifically between a huge drill and a very angry man.

Buckets of blood, heaps of guts, that crazy Lucio!
Fulci's follow-up to his enjoyable bloodbath Zombie(1979) is euro-trash sleaze on the outside but multiple viewings have revealed a surreal, scary horror film with a few good ideas, and dripping with gothic atmosphere. A priest hangs himself in Dunwitch, Mass and starts off a deadly chain of events leading up to the end of the world. Only gruff reporter Christopher George, and Medium-returned-from-the-dead Catherine McColl can stop the carnage. Some generaly haunting scenes such as when the priest's ghost appears just before someone gets kacked, and a little boy pursued by the spirit of his dead sister through the deserted streets. Once again, if you can't handle the gore, better stay clear. This features brain squashing, eyeball popping, intestine-barfing, head drilling, and a giant crucifix thrust into a guy's knads. Ouch.

Both of these movies are fine but wanted to warn everyone that in the 2-pack release of "Silent Hill" with "Ultraviolet" it is NOT the unrated version of "Ultraviolet" (Amazon's description calls it "R rated") but rather you get the the shorter PG-13 theatrical version. I wish I had known!

Touching and Tragic
This film has two of Hollywood's biggest stars - Eastwood and Costner - both of whom give great performances. But it's the young actor who plays the kidnapped boy who steals the show. This drama is set in Texas, early November 1963 - shortly before JFK's fateful visit to Dallas. An escaped convict (Costner) kidnaps a boy and is on the run from the law (Eastwood) and each of their lives are changed forever. The film is especially touching whenever it focuses on the growing relationship between the convict & boy - Costner's portrayal of the tough escapee with a kind heart is great and the boy is so natural and likeable. Under Eastwood's direction the film is controlled and avoids the pitfall of melodrama. The ending is tragic yet inevitable. I think this is one of Costner's best performances and was surprised when the film seemed to be overlooked by the media. An astounding, film. Costner and Eastwood in top form.
The story was very unique and I actually really cared about the characters and how their stories unfolded. Even the kid was really cool, and I don't often like kids in movies. Kevin Cosnter gives an exceptional performance, ranking among his best. I love the scene at the end of the film where he is dancing with the wife of the family he has just assualted. Genius. And Clint Eastwood manages to pull off another stellar performance even as a supporting character. He directs the film as well, and manages to tell and original, intelligent emtional stroy. Bravo!

The Man From Laramie / The Desperadoes

A good value...
'Man from Laramie' is a time-tested Mann-Stewart classic (4-plus stars), 'Desperadoes' a psychologically-less-nuanced but enjoyable western/drama from Charles Vidor (3 1/2 stars). What's nice about this set, aside from its inviting price and space-saving component, is the fact that 'Laramie' finally is offered on a single-sided picture disc containing only the widescreen version (Columbia's 1999 issue is a fullscreen/widescreen flipper). Otherwise the transfer quality-- decent, though not great-- of both films and extra features are identical to those which appear on their original releases.

LEGENDS: BEST OF THE WEST
The Desperadoes (1943) and The Man From Laramie (1955) though a dozen years apart in the filming, are well suited to be placed in the same DVD box.

Is there anyone out there above the age of 30 who hasn't seen these two movies? Well, they are certainly not age restrained, so anyone enjoying a good western from the olden days can and will get enjoyment watching them both.

I was born in 1943 (Desperadoes), so missed this one when originally released but saw it later on TV, while the Man From Laramie was on the screen when I was a teenager. A lot of things have changed since, one of them being that Hollywood for the most part has forgotten how to film a good western, and when an offer of two 'legends' of the screen come up any buckaroo worth their salt will just have to fork over.

Don't miss these two from yesterday pards, they are well worth it, if you are a fan of the old west on the screen.

Naruto Shippuden, Vol. 10

Naruto is still the best anime ever
This Naruto dvd is the best one to come out so far. In the past naruto Shippuden dvds you seen kakashi and Naruto fight Itachi which was cool. you seen Guy Sensei vs kisame which was epic but this fight will blow those away. Naruto vs Orochimaru. If you ever watch the old episodes of Naruto you'll know that they fought before and naruto lost. but this time Naruto is way stonger than before and orochimaru isnt which means its payback time and if orochimaru dosent tell him were Sasuke is he's going to beat him silly.Naruto's team better stay back you can see on the cover that Naruto isnt messing around. the next dvd will keep you going,thanks

The Rookie

Hey! This is a good film!
I don't understand why there are so many slams against this movie posted here...this is a very exciting, action-packed film! Maybe these critics aren't Charlie Sheen fans or sumpin'...but this film kept me riveted all the way thru it!

Clint's character, cop Nick Pulovski, has hints and traces of Dirty Harry Callahan, so fans of that series should enjoy this film; Charlie Sheen is the rookie detective who Clint gets stuck with as his new partner - Clint's old partner, played by Hal Williams ("Smitty" the cop on the old SANFORD & SON tv show) gets offed by Raul Julia (who plays an exceptionally evil criminal) and Raul's girlfriend/female alter ego, played by Sonia Braga (who looks INCREDIBLE!!!). These two and their goons run an auto theft ring (and perform a few murders along the way), all the while being stalked and staked out by Clint and Charlie. The film begins with an outstanding chase sequence on the freeway, with lots of crashes, blood and bullets.

Another Eastwood Goody!!! And Sheen Was Good Too!!!
When two policemen move in on car thieves, one of them gets killed. And the fallen officer isn't just a partner, he's a friend. Now it's PERSONAL!!! Clint Eastwood plays Nick Pulovski the surviving partner, who makes it a point to try and find the hoodlums. Of course Clint plays a rough and tumble policeman like in his Dirty Harry roles, but in this movie, he does show a more down to earth side, lighter side. There's a terrific car chase involving Clint and when it's over, it's rather comical.
Nick gets a new partner David Ackerman (played by Charlie Sheen) who looks more like an insurance salesman than a policeman, mainly because he's from the side of town where you learn early in life where to put your fork and knife on the table.
With this new partner, the two head out to try and find the thieves. The head goon is played by none other than Raul Julia. I must admit, when I first spotted Raul playing that of a villain, I didn't think he'd fit the role, but after seeing the...

Great fun for Eastwood fans.
This is surely of one the minor Clint Eastwood efforts, but still very pleasing to watch, and containing the same film structure and style of his better movies. Taking aside the violence, it's entertaining and with good humour. The Blu-Ray edition looks and sounds quite decent, well worth the purchase.

Pink Cadillac

Eastwood has a sense of humor...........
Clint's bounty hunter is obviously a parody character based on his other roles. The movie was interesting and a little bizarre, but I think he was having fun with the production, and with the audience. While Peters is not generally leading lady material there is something appealing and vulnerable about the woman she portrays, and it plays well to Eastwood's sentimental tough guy. If you're looking for humor and action but don't expect a lot of plot depth or original story line it's an entertaining flick.

Pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac is another great old Clint Eastwood movie. There was a lot of action through the whole thing and Bernadette Peters played a great supporting roll. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

Keeps getting sillier after a good beginning
The movie starts very well with a clever plot, excitement, and two attractive main characters. But with every quarter hour the plot gets sillier. Toward the end it becomes totally absurd, when the two main characters, armed with pistols, set out to confront a large number of heavily armed brutes. (The idea of reporting the baby's abduction to the FBI does not occur to anyone.)

This review refers to the DVD edition(Warner Bros) of "Bronco Billy".....

Watching this wonderful film you will come to realize that this was a labor of love for Clint Eastwood, who directs as well as stars. He had something to say and said it with this story.It is many things. It is entertaining, amusing, inspiring and poignant. The message is clear. You can do what you want to do, be what you want to be.

Eastwood gathers all the usual suspects together and casts them as a group a misfits who all have a special role as part of "Bronco's Billy's Wild West Show", a modern day attempt to bring the wild west back into the hearts of all the "young partners out there". Of course Eastwood is "Bronco Billy", the rootin tootin sharpshooter who runs the show. His problem (besides never having any money to pay the crew) is holding on to a good assistant. Bronco Billy really IS America
Bronco Billy, in my opinion, is Clint's best and most unappreciated film. It lays bare the real irony and comedic/tragic essence of the American dream. MINOR EASTWOOD BUT MAJOR PLEASURE
Between two Harry Callahan movies, Warner Brothers used to let Clint Eastwood direct more personal movies. Everybody knew that these films wouldn't be hits, they were little presents offered to the successful actor. Thanks to these minor movies, Clint Eastwood is now considered, at least in Europe, as one of the major american film directors.

BRONCO BILLY, shot in 1980, is a good surprise for the Eastwood fan. Starring Sondra Locke, Geoffrey Lewis Scatman Crothers, Sam Bottoms and Clint, the movie has all the ingredients of a good comedy. Witty and heartful. The show presented by Clint and his friends is hilarious and the relations between Bronco and the children very well developed. In Bronco Billy's world, everybody can become what he wants to be ; a shoemaker can become a cowboy, a desertor a master in throwing lassoes and so on. Come join this pathetic world described with tenderness by Clint Eastwood. The director.

New York free-lance jouranlist John Kelso(John Cusak) is in Savannah to cover an the elite annual Christmas party thrown by the nouveau-riche John Williams(Kevin Spacey).John is in awe of the splendor,the charms,the opulence, and history of his surroundings. The party takes place in the Mercer House, built by the grandfather of Johnny Mercer.John meets some very colorful characters at the party. They all seem to be living in another world, one that is decadent and oblivious to the rest of the world. John is about to wrap his little essay for "Better Homes and Gardens" magazine, but when the evening ends with a mysterius murder, he stays on and become embroiled in the odd trial that follows.

John decides to do a little investigating on his own, as he plans to write a book about the whole sordid affair. Jim Williams is the one on trial for the murder of a belligerent employee(Jude Law). Was he merely an employee though? What...

Southern Belle Savannah.
Adapting a book to the screen is always a risk, and adapting a successful book particularly so, especially if it is a nonfiction book and the story has already made news (or been the subject of gossip, which in this instance doesn't seem to make much difference) long before the book was ever written. There will always be those who claim that you didn't do the book justice, or that you didn't do the real events justice, or both. But let's face it, folks, the vast majority of us weren't witnesses to Jim Williams's record four trials, nor did we attend any of his famous Christmas parties, nor did or do we know Mr. Williams or any of the other inhabitants of Savannah featured so prominently here (even if Jerry Spence - not the attorney, the hairdresser appearing as himself in the movie - insists that ever since the publication of John Behrendt's book people have been asking him to sign their copy). All that most of us did was read the book ... yes, so did I, and I enjoyed it immensely...

A timeless piece of eccentric south
I have lived in the south all my life. Watching this movie reminded me of how beautiful and special this place is. Clint Eastwood's interpretation of John Berendt's piece of literary art was splendid in its own right. It reminded me of how rich our heritage is. The music, the superb casting (no one can deny the talent of the great Kevin Spacey) and the seemingly endless parade of characters kept me enthralled from the beginning. It's not often a film can pull at my heartstrings, teach me something about tolerance and history, reveal such beauty and amuse me at the same time. The movie so moved me that I read the book. Although somewhat different, each form was intriguing. I have just returned from Savannah. I was constantly reminded of the story of Jim Williams as I walked the squares and felt the history therein. This filmed turned attention once again to a wonderful magical place, the South.

Wild Things: Foursome (Unrated Edition)

I was prepared not to like WILD THINGS 4: FOURSOME. I usually don't like direct-to-video sequels that piggyback onto more successful films by association, but I was pleasantly distracted by WILD THINGS: FOURSOME

A cast of virtually unknown pretty boys and pretty girls make up the cast. The acting is good, which is to say that the screenwriters were smart enough not to strain the actors' abilities with anything too demanding. The storyline follows the overall concept of the original Wild Things. It's a kill-or-be-klled fest of backstabbings, betrayals, rip-offs, lies, and misdirection.

WILD THINGS: FOURSOME was made in sunny South Florida. In what amounts to a continuity problem, it takes place either in the fictional city of "Blue Bay" or in Miami. Never mind the contrivance, it's upscale Miami, impure and unsimple.

Wild movie. Not the greatest acting or maybe its just their style for the Wild Things series. The girls are hot ofcourse, but we dont see much of the 3rd girl. ANyways in typical Wild Things fashion,we have twists and surprises which can keep you guessing. Not a classic film, but one worth watching. Its a keeper for me.

Yeah, I knew it would be bad
The series of Wild Things movies wants desperately to be a part of neo-noir cinema, yet the characters are so cartoony, the audience doesn't really care what happens to them. The plot holes are so large that the director decided that the end credits should double as five minutes of filling in the narrative gaps. The movie is of course about greed, and there's a large amount of money at stake. It's not particularly clear how the people who end up with the money could actually access it legally. It's not worth thinking about though.

Clint Eastwood's best movie: an American Classic
Although Clint Eastwood gained his greatest critical acclaim as a director for 1992's "Unforgiven" and 2003's "Mystic River" -- both of which are incredible pieces of American cinema -- his best film remains this perennially popular Western from 1976. Here's Eastwood's own take on it: "I do believe that if I'd made that picture in 1992, in place of `Unforgiven,' it might have received the same amount of attention, because I think it's equally as good a film. I think the subject matter of `Josey Wales' is timeless." Orson Welles himself named it one of his favorite movies!

Yet critics at the time completely dismissed it as just another Clint Eastwood Western-Revenge flick. On the surface, the plot might give you that illusion: Missouri farmer Josey Wales loses his family to marauding Union cutthroats during the civil war. "Josey" Remastered...Looks and Sounds Great

Josey Wales is another of Clint's Eastwood's bigger than life Western characters that you won't soon forget.Josey though, is not like the others that preceeded him. It becomes apparent throughout this film, that this tough loner, on the run from murderers, has a heart the size of Texas.(And of course in this one we DO know his name!).
Eastwood also does an artful job of directing this tale, that has everthing from action to romance, and even a little comedy.

The end of the civil war is nearing. The northern soldiers though, won't let up. THEY DONE HIM WRONG....
As I am not ordinarily a fan of westerns, I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed this film. It was an engrossing and entertaining movie, and, unlike others in this genre, it is an intelligent and well thought out film.

The film tells the story of a Missouri farmer who, towards the end of the Civil War, finds his home overrun by renegade union soldiers who set fire to his homestead, kill his wife and son, and leave him for dead. After burying his family, he joins a group of confederate guerillas who have suffered similar tragedies. Ultimately, the war ends and their leader brings them in for surrender, except for Josey Wales, who watches their surrender from afar. Good thing he did not join them, as their surrender turns into an execution by the very same men who had pillaged his home and killed his family.

Wales escapes only to be relentlessly hunted down by the very men who had wronged him, as well as by bounty hunters who want that five thousand dollar reward offered for...

Dreadtime Stories Double Feature: Candy Stripers / She Creature

weird choice for a double feature
these 2 stories were totally different.she creature was by far the better of the two,even though it did drag a bit.the story was good even if you could predict the ending about 20 min into the movie.candy stripers was horrible.the fx were allright and the women were hot but the story was awefull.

Superb Sci-Fi Flavored Espionage Film
Though my opinion of Clint Eastwood has lowered with the revelations in Sondra Locke's book, there is no disputing his abilities as an actor and director. One of his finest efforts comes in Firefox, Eastwood's taut, exciting adaptation of Craig Thomas' 1975 novel.

Eastwood plays Mitchell Gant, a burned-out Air Force Vietnam vet who is first seen jogging in the Alaskan wilderness. Gant occassionally suffers from bouts of Delayed Stress Syndrome - shown when, as an Air Force helicopter approaches his log cabin home, he flashes back to a harrowing experience of being shot down, captured by Communist soldiers, and being rescued.

Mitchell Gant's battle shock, though, is of little concern to the CIA and British MI6, for they want him for the most audacious intelligence mission yet. The titular Firefox is a Soviet superplane, capable of Mach Six, invisible to radar tracking, and possessing thought-controlled weaponry. Mitchell Gant's job - steal it.

I Can't Stop Watching this Film!!!
I've seen this film at least seven times, and I enjoyed it just as much each time.
This is a very enjoyable cold war action/spy drama. Tense action carried out in Clint Eastwood style.
If you like Clint Eastwood. You'll like this film. Some have pointed out some continuity errors in the film, but these don't spoil the story. The characters are acted in such a way as to make you care about what happens to them.
It's looely based on the books. The movie ends in a way I won't spoil. But I will say that after you see this movie you should search out the books, Firefox, Firefox Down (they are selling on Amazon; as used for a penny)

Brighter than the Dawning Blue: Complete Collection

Short but pleasant series...
Surprised for the US launch it went with Brighter Than the Dawning Blue but left out Crescent Love, which is the full name. I caught this series online a few years back then went out and looked for it but there was no release yet. Ended up buying some subbed thing from Cambodia unfortunately with sloppy subs. This series is unfortunately short. There are only around a dozen episodes but it is filled with great characters and a very nice story. Now there is light fan service but beyond skimpy outfits it doesn't go very far. Overall it focuses on telling the story more. I wouldn't call it the best series ever made, but Crescent Love certainly has some nice "Disney" scenes. Not overly violent or racy but a very idealistic romance story like you'd find at Disney. Just rather enjoyable. Try not to laugh at the animator's poor quality lettuce in the cooking episode. Hopefully this version includes the updated rework, but originally the lettuce was drawn as just a green ball on screen...

Brighter than the Dawning Blue
Above average anime entertainment. Recomended for Teens to adult who are fans of the genre. As with most of Sentai films produtions this is worth checking out.

Beautiful
This is a sweet and lighthearted anime. Love it when Jin gets his face smeared on the wall so many times! Very well done!

Ghost Dad

Ghost Dad is funny!
Ghost Dad stars Bill Cosby as a workaholic father who is never at home and leaves all of his reponsibilities to his oldest daughter. His oldest daughter begins to resent him when he forgets her birthday. That day also changes Bill's character life forever when a crazed taxi driver picks him up and runs off the bridge causing him to become a ghost. Bill is forced to be at the mercy of his children who help him darken his office at work, so he can be seen. As the movie progresses, Bill's character becomes closer to his children and learns that he needs to make more time for them. This movie has a lot of Bill Cosby's humor, which is really funny at times. One of the funniest scenes is with Bill and a guy in England who calls himself "Ed-ith", instead of "E-dith." Definitely see this movie if you like Bill Cosby.

Too little spirit in a movie about a spirit
Bill Cosby is as fine a comedian as he is an activist, who also made some of the greatest shows on television. Sidney Poitier is a well-respected actor, who broke racial barriers with his stellar performances in the late-60s movies. Together (with Poitier in the director seat), they couldn't make a ghost comedy work. I wonder if this was just bad timing that "Ghost Dad" was released in the same year as when that ironic Patrick Swayze tearjerker came out (a zillion-times better movie, I might add). If this movie had been pushed back a year or so later, it probably would've been well received by the audience, but if that's the case, than the same could be said for "Over Her Dead Body". Alright,...

Love the movie...Some problems with the DVD
First I will start by saying that I love this movie. I was excited to get it on DVD. The thing that left me perplexed was how scenes were deleted from the DVD. I was disappointed by that. They added a few scenes, but I felt the gap when a part I knew well was skipped. I'm not sure what I feel about that.

For Love or Money

If you are a Fox fan, then you should see this movie
This is definitely a feel good movie. Fox is good as a hotel conceirge who has a dream one day of owning his own hotel. His dream becomes interrupted when he falls for a clients' mistress played by Gabrielle Anwar.

While there are times in this movie that you are completely suspended in disbelief, I liked this movie. The chemistry between Fox and Anwar seems genuine and real. Fox's charisma shines really bright when he shares the dreams of his hotel with Anwar.

I probably will never own this movie, but it would be a great movie to rent and see it with that special someone in your life.

Feel Good Masterpiece
This is a fantstic movie. FOX and ANWAR are absoultley fantastic in this romantic comedy. Viewers will agree this movie has a 'feel' to it which a lot of movies (not just romantic comedies) fail to produce. I think it is a combination of the quality of writing and sonnenfelds directing with the Amazing proformances from not just the 2 stars but the supporting cast.

Oh yeah!!, one last thing this movie was VERY hard to find at AMAZON because Im from australia and this movie is called "The Conceirge" instead of "For Love or Money", i personally think the title "The concerige" sounds better because "For Love or Money" sounds like any romantic song or movie. However with the title "The concerige" the title spaces it out from the rest, which a movie like this should because this movie is simply amazing.

Fox shines in this delightful film
The professional critics hated this film, so it can't be all bad! In fact, it provides an excellent background on which Micheal J. Fox showcases his talent. A great supporting cast and a fun plot make this entire film a gem you'll want to watch again and again. It sure ain't film noir. Eat your heart out, Mr. Maltin!!!
