Graphic crime mysteries from a different dramatic approach
UK TV sure knows how to find a twist for excellent crime mystery drama. "Trial & Retribution" is much more than just cops catching criminals. This series' episodes begin with the crime, progress through the investigation, continues with the trial and conviction. Throughout each 2-hour-plus episode, viewers get close and personal with the lives of all involved: victims, accused, cops, lawyers, judges, family, and friends. It's similar to seeing into the personal lives of leads in "Midsomer Murder".
It is not the humorous look at criminals as seen in "Raffles", a great new release. This DVD set box warns of graphic scenes--a huge understatement.
Graphic = lots of blood, nudity, language, extreme violence, and graphic morgue & crime location scenes. Once beyond the graphic scenes, there is some excellent writing, intrigue, suspenseful plot, and the short bits of romance, family life, and relationships of the show's characters.
IT IS NOT FOR KIDS--but 5 stars for...
fantastic
This set is an excellent series. You will not find a better series with the raw content of a BBC production.Suspense, riveting and awesome program, make sure you get the whole series.
Fantastic drama
I own all of the Trial & Retribution series and set 4 ranks among the best. The combination of crime mystery, principal character development, and notable differences between the British and American court systems make this a compelling view. While I enjoy many British dramas, the characters in the Trial & Retribution series and the Blue Murder series are absolutely the best.I truly hope this series continues.
